20 Date Night Ideas During Self-Isolation

This is a very unusual, weird and scary season we are in right now. Everyone is working from home, kids are suddenly being home-schooled, restaurants are closed, and it’s only been two days of ‘social distancing’. Going stir crazy yet?

How are you coping? I’ve come up with a list of 20 date night ideas you can do from your own home to keep you busy, connected to your partner, and taking advantage of this extra time you may be spending at home with your spouse.

20 Date Night Ideas During Self - Isolation

1.) Board game night

I’m sorry but I think board games are so underrated. Remember how fun they were when we were kids!? Why did we ever stop? - Oh yeah, because our heads are in our phones instead! Put your phones down and play an intense game of scrabble or Sorry. You’ll remember how much fun it is.

2.) Take a walk, a hike, or bike ride

Get outside and enjoy this beautiful spring weather we’re having. Bonus points if you have a dog you can bring. Getting some fresh air and sunlight can do wonders to improve your mood and energy.

3.) Discuss your favorite Disney movie as a child and watch it on Disney plus

You’re never too old for Disney. Bring back all those childhood feels by watching your favorites from your childhood.

4.) Start a home improvement project

Been meaning to paint that back room? Always wanted to add that backslash to your kitchen? If you have the supplies, now is a great time to work together on that project you’ve been meaning to do.

5.) Purge your closets

Any Marie Kondo fans here? Purging out your closets can be so revitalizing and refreshing. Turn up your favorite playlist and make it fun!

6.) Cook dinner AND dessert together

I don’t know about you, but I’m not the biggest fan of cooking. But if you can give me a reason to make it fun, I’m all about it. Designate each other to certain jobs in the kitchen to make it fun and create your meal together! It will taste that much better knowing you made it together.

7.) Have a movie marathon night

Turn those lights down low, light come candles, snuggle with you boo and enjoy some movies!

8.) Plant a garden (It’s the perfect time of year for it!)

What better time to be in isolation when we can still get outside and create new life? This is exactly the time of year where a new garden would be thriving at the first signs of warmth and sunlight. Seeing flowers blooming in my yard always makes me feel a little better.

9.) Teach your dog some new tricks

Okay maybe I’m the only one here that loves bonding with their dog. Anyone, anyone? When we first adopted Tucker, I watched so many Youtube videos to learn new tricks to teach him. It was fun for us, funner for him, and everyone felt happy once he accomplished a new trick.

10.) Make a cheese board and pair it with some wine

Cheese and wine. Need I say more?

11.) Make a craft together

Crafts aren’t just for kids folks. I was actually just looking up some painting by numbers canvas’s I could order last night - painting to me is so relaxing (thought I’m not very good at it). Again, Pinterest has so many ideas for crafts for adults and I’m sure you’ll have a lot of laughs doing them together.

12.) Do a Youtube yoga class together

You may confined to your house right now, but there are some great FREE yoga classes out there on Youtube that can help you feel more connected and relaxed, while getting a little work out in.

13.) Do a puzzle

I swear this can be fun - it’s not just for our grandparents. Find a complex puzzle and make a night out of it. Working together can create some great team building skills!

14.) Write a couples bucket list

Think about all the things you say in your head, ‘One day, we will do that, go there, travel here’. Write up that list together as a fun way to see your dreams written out on paper. You may want to include two columns – 1 . Where you would like to visit and 2. How much it will cost to turn your dreams into reality. Then circle 3-5 of them that you can commit to completing within this year.

15.) Create a scavenger hunt

This is a really fun game to create and there’s endless ideas on Pinterest to help you make your scavenger hunt.

16.) Spring cleaning

Being that everyone is home right now, this couldn’t be a more perfect time to do some serious cleaning around the house. We all know in a couple months, things are going to pick back up again and get extremely busy and we will all have the excuse of, ‘I just don’t have time for that right now.’ Well guys, we have time for that right now.

17.) Order delivery from a local restaurant

Now is a GREAT time to be supporting businesses! This means so much to local restaurants who aren’t getting much income right now. If you’re tired of cooking and have meaning meaning to try that new place in town, order pick up or delivery.

18.) Play ‘would you rather’

This is a great list I found that would be fun: HERE.

19.) Play a trivia game to test your knowledge on your relationship

Write out questions like, ‘What would my partner say is my best physical attribute?’ or ‘What is my partner’s most annoying habit’, ect, and see how your answers compare! (You know, kind of like the newlywed game)

20.) Take an enneagram test

If you’re new to the whole enneagram thing, they are basically in depth personality tests that dive deep into who you are as a person, how you react to certain situations, and what kind of people you attract. This can be pretty cool to figure out together as a couple and you can understand each other on a whole new level. There are many free quick ones online, or you can pay for more in depth tests. Here’s a free one I took!

*And here’s one more bonus idea!* - Book a couple’s session with your local photographer! This can be scheduled for next year if you really want! It doesn’t matter when you schedule it for, but not only is this another way to support a small business, but I truly believe that couple sessions are an incredible bonding experience for partners and involves a fun day of lighting that love back on fire.
